Irate Sidestand starting problem

I've been having a problem starting.

When I do the normal process (key on, clutch in, choke, starter)

Nothing happens.

I must do the process AND put the kickstand up WHILE attempting to start for the starter to work.

It's an 07 that I've owned for about three months and put about 1500 miles on, I mostly use it for my work commute approximately 24miles round trip a day.

I guess I'll look for the sidestand switch and inspect/clean it to see if it makes a difference.

If the issue isn't with the kickstand switch, my best guess would be the starter solenoid relay. Unfortunately, the electrical system is not my stronger suit.
I assume you have the transmission in neutral?

Yes, bike in neutral. I've been busy with the holidays and haven't done anything about it yet.

For about a week operating the sidestand while attempting to start stopped having an effect so I was just push-starting.

But today operating the sidestand while attempting to start worked.

Tomorrow I'll look at the sidestand switch. It was only $8.00 for another solenoid so I ordered one.

Installed the new solenoid and it seems to have solved the problem
