Speedo stopped working

About a month ago, on a nice trip through the countryside.. Just died all of the sudden, no lights, no nothing.

I went through whatever parts of the wiring that was somewhat accessible, but found no loose ends or disconnected plugs.

What am I looking at here?

Greatly appreciate the help guys

So you lost your electrics or you just lost the speedo function?

You may need a new speedo cable. Disconnect the cable at the speedo housing and pull out the inner cable. If it is intact just lube it and re-install. Inspect both ends for damage before putting it back together. It might also be the magnetic sending unit in the front wheel hub but that doesn't usually occur. You would need to pull the front wheel to check it.

Do you mean the bike died? the speedo died? or what? The speedo is mechanical. The lights are electrical. Can you explain EXACTLY what happened?

The bike did not die, only the speedo. There is a light in the speedo, so you can see it at night, and that light died along with the rest of the speedo, which led me to believe the problem was electrical rather than mechanical.

If the speedo doesn't work it's GOT to be mechanical. Broken cable? Mine failed twice. First time, the cable coupling at the speedo had unscrewed itself. Second time, the cable snapped. If both the mechanical speedo and the electrical light failed at the same time it could be (just guessing) that something exploded in the speedo, or it could be two separate faults :- blown bulb and broken cable. Unscrew the cable from the speedo, and see if it's broken. Check the bulb. Go one step at a time, and let us know what you find, because this sounds damn weird.

Just tried to unscrew the cable, it was, of course, broken.. It bothers me that I did not bother to check that myself. Got a new one in the mail now.
