Praying for another easy fix....
Hello there everyone. Hope your doing well. Hope the weather is great in your neck of the woods.
Just stopping by to say hi...... yeah right. So I appreciate all the help I got on the other issue I had, but here's a new one. After I fixed the safety switch, I set up to go for a ride (because I'm dying to get back out there on two wheels), and I was half way down my alley when she cut off on me. I checked that the nut I put in was secure and yes it is. I tried turning her back on and she was now turning over, but not firing up. I pushed her back down the alley and got to reading. I did some visual inspection to see if anything had been knocked loose or was disconnected and nothing I could see. I then got into the spark plug to change it, and inspect things in there while open. It all looked clean (did some reading on some other posts before starting this topic). I put a new one in, gapped it properly, made sure the lead was secure. I also checked that there was a spark and yup, a nice blue spark. Put her back together and viola! She cranked up. She ran for about a minute, then started to sputter and then cut out. Tried turning her back on and she just turned over but gave that sound as if there was no spark. That's where I'm at. Thoughts? Sounds like a gas issue. Is your vacuum line hooked up between your tank and the carb?

Might be that the gas cap vent is plugged and creating a vacuum in the tank so the gas can't flow down to the carb. Just remove the cap while listening for a sucking sound. It is an easy fix.

Alright, so here's what I did.
alantf, I tried your advice. I cranked it up just now, without doing anything. It started up and as expected it ran for a bit, then shut down. I then set to prime and waited 30 seconds. It then cranked up and stayed on. After about a minute of that though, I started seeing a little bit of smoke coming from the engine, not enough to freak someone out. Please tell me that is coming from setting it to prime. I did switch it back to on, and it ran for a bit (albeit rough). I am going to also check the gas cap vent, but I'm not 100% I understand exactly what I'm supposed to be doing there. I think it would be in reference to section 4-1 in the service manual from here? I also searched the forum looking for some steps or pics and didn't quite come across them. If someone sets me up with some steps, I'll take some pics along the way and upload them for future reference. Thanks.

The thing is.....in "run" it needs engine vacuum to open the petcock and let fuel flow to the carb. In "prime" it doesn't need vacuum. So.... if it runs in prime but not run, this means that the problem is that it's not getting vacuum, which suggests that there's a problem with the vacuum pipe which runs from the petcock to the carb.

Okay, got a quick question. Got a hose that doesn't seem to have a home at the other end.
I've been looking in the service manual and online and found the hose in a diagram but not where it's suppose to be. Is it supposed to not be connected? Is it some kind of overflow/drain tube? Pic should be attached.
