carb leaking/sucking air?
my engine recently started making a strange noise. this is my first bike so i dont know a whole lot. two people have told me they think it sounds like airs getting in or out. it sounds like its coming from the carbs (or around there)
any suggestions on how to confirm this and fix it? thanks in advance! Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
Can we have any more info on what this sounds like? What is it actually doing?
Does the bike have any other symptoms to go along with it? |

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
its like a hum not a rattle. its not too loud but loud enough to notice if you know what it should sound like. sorry, its a little hard to describe. nothing else is going on. it still rides fine. the idles off a bit but thats about it
is there any way for me to post a video for a real example of the sound? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
i just went For a ride. theres also a high pitch squeal. it sou ds like my brakes are too tight. i recently changed the front ones so maybe that plays a part jn the squeal

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
This is going to sound like a stupid question, but did you possibly put one or both of the pads on backwards? Ask my friend Zach how that can happen, and the weird noise that it creates.

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
Quick way to test for a carb leak is to spray some WD-40 around the inlet that you suspect to be leaking. If the engine note changes tune, then you know what to address.

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
Sounds possibly like a loose intake manifold leak, loose carb, air filter or vacuum hose off. Try tightening up all the bolts around the carb. Jonathons idea of spraying wd40 around it is a good idea. Maybe starting fluid?

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
I would use WD-40. It seems to be very popular for finding air leaks on many forums.

Re: carb leaking/sucking air?
there was a small hose between the petcock and carb that came off. i reattached it and it helped part of the problem. theres still a noise in the engine but it could just be normal. now my main issue is the squeal. i checked and the brake pads are on correct. any other ideas?
