Don't unscrew it,or you will loose the weight and expander in the handle bar,and they are a real bit$h to get out.If it's loose the whole assembly should pull out so you can see what the problem is.

Don't take the screw out altogether! If you do that, you'll have all sorts of bits & pieces jangling about in the handlebars. Just slacken it sufficiently to be able to pull it all out together, then have a look at all the components, to see what the problem is. :2tup:

Oh dear the weight on the end and the long screw that holds it on are off the bike. How can i get them back on

The nut and the expander and one or two rings and other parts that go on the other end of the screw are inside your handlebar and will fall out when you put the bike on its side, piece of cake. If the tank is more than half full I'd also get the tank off first, piece of cake as well.

Then put the balancer together with enough tension on the expander to rub against the inside of the handlebar. Insert, and tighten screw. If the screw doesn't want to tighten, the expander is too loose, remove, tighten a bit and re-insert.

Note......... To get the rubber expander out, you could try bending the end of a piece of wire coat hanger & hooking the rubber out. If you haven't got a wire coat hanger, your local dry cleaners will probably let you have one. :2tup:

Alan thank you for adding to the directions, I totally forgot about having to pull the expander out with something (coat hanger indeed, or I might have used a bicycle spoke), you see it's been a couple years since I had the balancer off the handlebar.

I had this problem literally a week ago. However i was missing the expander and nut. Basically those 2 items are what the bolt goes into. So if its loose, odds are the nut/expander came loose.

My solution: Buy a 3rd party Balancer set.. costs under 20$

the weight gets loose and just by rotating the weight it gets tigth again but if it is not happening i mean by turning the weight it is not getting tight the probability is the expander is bad and you have to buy a new one to replace it and when you take the assembly out and you cannot find a nut in the end (after the expander) it had come off and slipped inside the handle bar. dont spend time finding it. get a new one.
