Want to Buy: Broken Suzuki OEM Windshield

Well actually not the windshield. But if someone has the mounting brackets from a broken shield, I would like to buy them for a reasonable price. Just bought one off FeeBay (Suzuki OEM), missing one bracket:

I can probably make one easy enough but if someone has one they can part with, it would be easier.

That was probably the one I ordered 3 years ago and it came in NIB missing
all sorts of parts. BTW that was the last straw for ordering OEM Suzuki parts.

Really? I didn't realize Suzuki would be like that. Hopefully at this point in time there's a broken windshield or two around that I could salvage from. I really hope so anyway.... been seeing moths the size of bats hitting my car windshield lately. Don't want them bouncing off me.

Bikes are good, accessories-not so much.

What a small world. I had seen that on E-Bay and even
had it on my Watch List for a few weeks before I decided
to slim down that List recently. If you really like the Suzuki
Windshield that's not a bad deal since there's a good chance
you could get a chip or crack and have a spare. While some of
the Mounting Hardware may break it's probably easier to rig that.

Haha Yep, I was watching it and got a june bug right in my face (through the car windshield) and figured it was an omen.

I'm not entirely sure about OEM but seemed like it should be tall enough. Hopefully not to many chips coming my way. I figure OEM would at least be a good fit and not look too bad. Of course that was before learning about the poor packing from the factory or whatever vendor Suzuki used.

Make sure you get the thing on there rock solid. Give your final installation a good wiggle test - it should feel like it's part of the fork (no give). You do not want either a half-ass mount or a forced mount. I know I sound like Dr. Obvious, but the windshield is subject to some extreme pressures when you are underway (especially when it's windy!) and you don't want the last thing you see to be a homemade solution popping off and the shield hitting you in the face.

Re: Want to Buy: Broken Suzuki OEM Windshield

Thanks Al, no such thing as being too obvious here. I'm new to riding on the street and even if I weren't, it's better to hear something once in case I forget. As long as I have the hardware for the one side I can copy the other side. It was shipped today so hopefully won't be too long to wait.

Re: Want to Buy: Broken Suzuki OEM Windshield

BTW, I, and others on here, have been hit in the face, the helmet and other exposed parts by a variety of objects (the largest of which was a hummingbird.) This phenomenom has persisted even after I put a windshield on the Geezer (the Yamaha came with a gigantic one included.) As recently as Monday, whilst I was out on Moedad's Birthday Ride, I got hit in the face with a relative large bug. And, further on, I had another one glance off my cheek and get lodged in my ear. So there I am, going about 60 mph along a twisty mountain road, with the usual sheer dropoffs on either side, with one hand on the throttle and the other whacking myself in the side of the head (to what end, I am not sure - but let's just say I don't do my best thinking when I have a large, angry bug in my ear.) I share this with you to say - your best protection against getting hit in the face with stuff is the face shield on your helmet. Stuff WILL get around the old windshield.

Why didn't I have my face shield down? Well, I had a cold, and lets just say I had experienced some tissue issues earlier. I also don't recommend riding when you have a cold - but the timing was just unfortunate.

(It was still a great ride despite my flirting with death for the dumbest of reasons.)

(Also, stay away from those dirt hauling trucks if you have 'em where you ride. All kinds of crap is constantly coming off the back of them, breaking windshields, dinging your glasses, scaring the crap out of you. The damn things shouldn't be legal on the freeway.)

Re: Want to Buy: Broken Suzuki OEM Windshield

I was going to skip the windshield at first so I bought a full face helmet. I think it's money well spent in any event for the reasons you mention as well as protection should anything happen. I've only ever ridden dirt bikes years back but that's slower and softer. I'm basically going to commute with this bike as I've got a 60 mile round trip to work. I also work graveyard shift, drive through a large swampy area with moose, deer, lions tigers and bears etc. Hopefully not too many dirt/rock/lumber trucks to deal with. The drive back in the morning should be awesome though. Sheer drop-offs on either side sounds interesting though.
