Does anybody have the checklist for the 600 mile service?
Just popped the 600 mile cherry on my 2010 Suzuki GZ250!
The dealership I bought the bike from quoted me $250 for her 600 mile service. Thats sounds steep for an oil change... what else is involved in this kind of procedure? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

The valve check is the only thing I would take the bike to a dealer for. That is assuming you don't want to or know how to do it yourself. The oil change, filter change, chain check and adjust you can do yourself easily enough. You should also go over the entire bike for loose fasteners and whatnot. Make sure you make adjustments to the levers, other hand controls and foot controls to fit your body and comfort level.

Most of the time it's just a valve "check", to make sure everything is within specs.
The once over is to check that all the bolts are tight, than nothing's wiggled/vibrated loose. Also check the tire pressures. |

You can't really go wrong with any oil recommended for a motorcycle. However you can save yourself some cash by using a regular car oil if it meets the required specs. 10-40 is the usual weight oil in the manual but it isn't written in stone. You can vary the oil weight a bit with no ill effects. Word of Warning. DO NOT use an Energy Conserving/Saving oil. If the little circle on the back of the bottle says Energy Conserving/Saving the bike will not like it. These oils contain a friction reducer/molifier that will affect the operation of the clutch. Use regular or synthetic oil in the bike. The choice is yours. We did use Amsoil synthetic in our bikes but due to the cost we switched over to good old cheap Shell Rotella 15-40 with excellant results.
The GZ does use a bit of oil under normal operation so get into the habit of checking the oil regularily. |
