Oil Change Problem
I'm in the middle of an oil change on a 2001 GZ250. When I unscrewed the oil drain plug and removed it a spring and plunger fell out of the drain hole. I don't see any mention of these items in the service manual. Can anyone tell me what they are and how they go back together?

Re: Oil Change Problem
I believe you took out the wrong plug.
You should be back about 2 or 3 inches from the plug that you took out. Locate the oil-drain plug, centered on the underside of the motor behind the kick stand.

Re: Oil Change Problem
As to how they go back together, check parts manual downloadable from this forum, since you didn't find it in the service manual.

Re: Oil Change Problem
Parts manual page 18, item 18, is that it? It shows the correct way to install the plunger.

Re: Oil Change Problem
The plug you took out is the gearshift cam stopper. It is pictured on page 3-51 in the service manual. The plunger goes in first than the spring and than your plug.It keeps you from shifting more than one gear at a time.

Re: Oil Change Problem
Welcome Jamie. Don't be embarrassed about the wrong bolt. You are not the first to do it. Now you have experience with parts not usually tinkered with. Tell us a little about yourself and your bike.
