I got a pair of Fieldsheer mesh armored pants (knees and hips) for the hot weather from Motorcycle Closeouts for $99 (regular price >$200-250 I think). They fit great, are very cool, come either in black or silver, and Kevlar Jeans are almost as much money without the same protection. No choice in my mind.
I also got a pair of vented armored pants (Exelement I think, from Leatherup.com) for $49 and they are also cool when riding. The whole front of the thigh zips open for air flow. Cheaper than Kevlar jeans, good knee protection too.

well I went to the local motorcycle clearance store and found some pretty nifty jeans with both hip and knee armor, full kevlar and CE rated armor of course....Not really interested in testing them out to find out if they work, but thats the whole point I guess. First ride back in the saddle went well, dry roads and one of the mates rode out with me.....on the way home thou raining and pretty ugly, but got home fine. Corners taken a lot slower than usual, and a bit skittish in relation to dropping the wrist and just going hard, but I am certainly glad to be back out.
