Re: Hello........(help)
yeah i was looking at it in the PDF manual on the site (very very helpful) so i'll make sure to clean it the right way around - also i did get a proper choke cable fitted to it about a month ago but the problem seems to transcend the before and after period - still, i'm gonna do the choke and carb on monday and the mechanic in dominos said o could do it in his workshop while he's there just in case i make a complete balls of it

Re: Hello........(help)
If the pipe was missing from the petcock, that means that any gunk that accumulated at the bottom of the tank before the tube fell off (& assuming the previous owner never used "reserve") went straight into the carb. This suggests to me that running carb cleaner through (in the next tankful of petrol) is a must. I also think that it's pretty essential to get the tube attached, to stop it happening again in the future. Also, if you attach it, this'll let you use the "reserve" facility (in case you forget to fill up) again. Switching to "reserve" just means that you're using petrol that sat below the top of the pipe that fell off. Don't forget that the gz hasn't got a fuel guage, so each time you fill up, reset the trip meter to zero, then refill every 150 miles or so, & again reset the trip meter to zero. (to our American friends, don't forget that English/Irish miles/gal are different to American miles/gal) If you're using litres/kilometer (like me) then fill up at around 200km. :2tup:

Re: Hello........(help)
ah it's all starting to make sense now - maybe those mechanics were genuinely fixing the problem each time but then a couple of weeks later more crap from the bottom of the tank would go into the carb and block it up - so getting that pipe refitted and cleaning the carb is now a priority - thanks alantf!

Re: Hello........(help)
I don't think it's a strictly Irish thing, I mean all the insurance companies over here offer some kind of scheme or another to reduce your premium if you can prove that your a competent driver and there's usually a few grades/levels that you can get for bigger discounts - I honestly thought the idea was stolen from other countries - here's an English site that offer them i think (just a quick google search) http://www.quotea.co.uk/quoteabike/adva ... aining.asp
