Anudder idea. Pull the vacumn line off the petcock, plug it with a golf t and start the bike. Wait till all gas is used up in gas line and carb. Engine will stop(no gas) and then remove the gas line.

I used golf tees for changing the fuel filters on my cars for years...they're surprisingly versatile.
