Won't start up. Power issue
So a few weeks ago I had to replace my right rear blinker. I changed it and then the switch wasn't really working well so I started poking around with a multi meter. I may have shorted something but I'm not sure. Anyway, I had a bad battery, went to autozone got a new one and it was bad. Swapped it for a somewhat working one and it turns over but only one turn before it starts clicking. It's a 2008. Only mod is the running tail light. I have it hooked up to the ground on battery and one of the orange cables on the bottom of the Fuze box. Today I pulled the bike apart looking for a hot wire. I hooked up the voltmeter to the ground on battery and the ground wire that goes to the battery. It was reading around 11volts. The battery is probably bad by now. I have been push starting the bike for a few weeks. When the bike is running the battery reads around 14.5 volts. Anyhow, I was looking for a hot wire and I found that the red wire running from the Starter Relay when unplugged would make the voltage reading go away. Also when everything was hooked up I disconnected the regulator/rectifier red cable hookup and the volt reading went away again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I still have warranty on battery. Any suggestions on good battery's for these bikes? Autozone battery's suck. It's a gold duralast

Mrkai, I would go to your local Suzuki dealer for a battery if you have one available. I had battery issues with the standard lead/acid batteries that didn't last more than 6 months brand new and I am a daily rider, so long down times weren't the issue. After the second battery, I upgraded to a lithium ion battery. It is pricey (105.00 US) but has lasted two years now and still going. It has a lot more cranking power and a fraction of the weight.
I can't help you on the rest of your electrical problems. You might want to connect with Alantf on this forum as he is very smart with those kinds of issues (there are others as well that will come on and help you). Good luck. |

Get an AGM(absorbant glass mat) battery. Charge it overnight to assure it is fully charged before putting it in service. Little things like this do make a huge difference.

Just a question on the "ordinary" batteries. No matter what the salesman says, you MUST charge the battery overnight before installing it. Also never, ever, use a car battery charger. You need one specially for bike batteries, giving out around 0.75 amps, or the battery will be toast. If you want to prove that the problem with starting is the battery problem, try jump starting from your car battery. but do this only with the car engine switched off, as the charging current of the car, with the engine running, will fry the battery. Try this and let us know how you get on, as a surprising number of GZ electrical problems are caused by bad batteries.

You can get the AGM or Lithium Ion battery from your local cycle shop. AGM batteries are available online from Sears or Walmart. Call around your local stores to see if any of them have them in stock.
