Carburetor Issue

I recently bought a GZ250 as a project. It's a 2006 that hadn't run since 2007.

I've been through the carburetor about 5 times. It seems spotless. I've even replaces the float and have done a K&L Rebuild kit on the carb.

I also did a K&L Rebuild on the petcock. The Petcock seems to to be working correctly now. If I disconnect the fuel line from the tank and try to start it, fuel is delivered.

So the Bike starts strong about about 3 second later it starts to bog down. If I add throttle it dies immediately or about 5 seconds later if I don't apply throttle.

After that it won't start again for awhile.. Seems like it's flooding. I can't seem to figure it out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Choke position during these attempts?
Was the carbs piston valve diaphragm intact?
Float level correct?
It does kinda sound like a passage is completely clogged. And the bike has set up for a very long time.

I've done with choke on and choke off. Choke on seems to make it run a touch longer, but not by much.

I thought something might be up with the float, so I replaced the float entirely and the Valve Assy, Needle. (http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detai...370-04F00.html) That didn't affect any change.

The Piston valve diaphragm appears to be a good condition.

It's possible that a passage is completely clogged. strategy for solving that?

I have soaked all the jets in chem dip, and also sprayed out everything else with spray carb cleaner.. Like I said I've been through it all a few times.

the jets got soaked but not the carb body?
did you spray through all the passages of the carb?
filter all clogged up?

The Jets got soaked and the carb body got sprayed out.

The idle jet passage is the only one I can't seem to validate that it's clear. The jet itself is clear. When I take the idle jet out it looks like there is another brass piece in there? What's it supposed to look like, how is it supposed to function? All the other passages seem to be flowing.

I have a new air filter. I rebuilt the petcock, when I did the fuel filter looked pristine, the petcock had a leak at first. I'm guessing at least for some time the gas tank sat empty.

If memory serves when I sprayed into the idle jet hole it did very much come flying out another passage in the carb. The venturi area iirc.

Your right that it sounds like flooding. Misadjusted float was my concern.
But your choke helping slightly says the exact opposite. To lean.
Does sound for sure your in the right area. Mixture problem.

Wonder if you solved this. Check your main jet and pilot jet (28 and 30 on the carburetor parts diagram) These jets are the same size (screw size) so it it easy to get them interchanged into the wrong holes. I struggled with this same problem for weeks until I figured the two jets were interchanged.
