Father O'Malley
Father O'Malley awoke early one fine west Texas morning and stepped out to enjoy the fresh spring air. Coming around the front of the church he noticed a jackass laying dead on the front lawn. He called the local Police Department and this is how the conversation went:
Police Department, this is Sgt. Jones. How may I help you? Ah Sgt. Jones, this is Father O'Malley from St. Ann's Catholic Church. Top of the morning, Father. And the rest of the day to you. Now Sgt. Jones, I awoke this morning to find a dead jackass on the church lawn and was wondering if you'd be so kind as to send a couple of yer young lads o'er to deal with the matter. Jones thought he was a bit of a wit and decided to have a little fun with the priest. Now Father, says Jones, I thought it was your duty as a priest to give the deceased last rites. The phone went silent for a long time. and then Father O'Malley said... True... true, true. You're right son, it certainly is our duty to pray for man and beast. But... we're also obliged to notify the next of kin first... and that, is the purpose of this call.
