How important is the SAE rating of engine oil?

SpinDr Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2012 Location: New Zealand Posts: 1	How important is the SAE rating of engine oil? I've just done my first oil change on my bike since I bought it (second hand) and my local automotive shop didn't have any 'SAE 10W-40' engine oil as suggested by the manual. I did get some 4T (4stroke) motorbike oil 10W-40 but couldn't find SAE rating anywhere. How important is this SAE standard? Login or Register to Remove Ads
