Ticking motor on like new gz250....

Bought a near mint condition 2007 gz250. After it was delivered and the deal was done, first I thought it was out of oil? Gotta stand the bike up straight to get the reading . Second the tapping noise was very disturbing. I changed the oil and rode for a good week , 500miles . Still tapping sounded like the rod was knocking ..so with 3.4k on the speedo , I had the valves re set . Very excited . A Week later she's ready . It was louder than before . No clue says the mechanic .so I parked it for 6 months . Battery died, got a new one added Lucas to the fuel , and cranked her up one more time just to be sure and she runs perfect ! Except for the tapping ? So after finding GZFourms and some youtube I discovered this is normal . So now I know regular gas, and that's it . I put another 200 miles in few days and she's tapping perfectly lol go listen on YouTube it's what they sound like.

Well after another 300miles , running perfect , unreal . Overjoyed sewing machine with over sized Valves . Rapahoe lol .I get to 55 in 4th and sure 75 isn't impossible . Me right now full throttle thru 4 gears into 5th and she's running perfect , I can clearly hear that ...lol little over 4k and she's doesn't miss a lick or tick should I say. Could be exhaust restriction? But anyone concerned about the loud rapping coming from the top of your GZ250 best I can figure, it's what she sounds like ? If she blows I let you know couldn't post pick too big ? and I've ran it hard and if anything got a little quieter lol enjoy she gets a few looks and ain't scared to cruise . I think I'd get the seat back bobber style maybe is the only thing , I'm 6.4 but it's fine .

Glad you are enjoying your GZ. My 2009 has hit just short of 24K miles and it just keeps on ticking (like the old Timex commercial).

I get wanting to move the seat back for someone your size. I feel like I am close to the limit for comfort at 6 ft.

Right now, my bike sits in the garage as it is just too dang hot to ride. Hitting close to 118 today and no break for a while from the heat. The rest of the year is good riding.

Ride safe.

Yep thanks, another 136 miles today ! Still ticking I'm so glad . Drilled 4 holes in exhaust made a decent difference . Idle is better or I'm just figuring it out. 45 - 55 mph is perfect for me . She gets going pretty good at 60 but I like easy cruising . Beach and river riding today East coast fla.

Yeah my '02 has always had a tick in it. Just turned 17K the other day.

And as somebody that's 6'2 with stupidly long legs, bobbing and moving the seat back made it SO much more enjoyable for me.

Found the solution to ticking Skull Candy ear buds .lol now if I can get the seat repadded. You guys know something I think this bike has a special place on the road and can't be said to have any problems in the eye catching dept. I would drive this bike 1000 miles on a road trip and not blink an eye.

While I don't think I could handle a 1000 mile road trip on this bike, it is a solid little cruiser. I too love the classic cruiser style of the GZ.

Y'know...back in the day I ended up having to make a 600 mile road trip on mine in a single day. I didn't HATE it but it isn't really something I'd want to do again
Most of my riding is limited to day trips and goofing around, especially since I converted the back end to a rigid frame.
