oil sight glass replacement.
its not broken. or lost.
background... pulled tank to pull carb. cleaned carb and reinstalled both carb and tank. forgot to take the petcock off of prime. flooded cylinder and airbox. and the engine case. so. i drained the now spic and span spotless engine interior of the 2stroke mix. used 1/2 a quart of oil to try to flush the remainder out of the bottom. i already knew there would be some more in there. apparently there was. while the engine was idling and arriving at operating temperature, the sight glass popped off the bike. should be no harm done. i was standing right there when it popped out. case has now been drained again. now that the background is out of the way.... the sight glass looks like it is only just tapped into the hole. metal "frame" with a large rubber ring (seal) around it. there was also a very small bead of RTV around the INSIDE of the ring. I'm guessing added insurance for a good seal? so. anyone ever have to replace theirs? any pointers other than "just shove it in there" and "add some RTV"? i'll be ordering new clutch plates since the originals were soaking in gas/oil. When I pull the side of the case, I'll take that opportunity to put it back in. on a good note. the engine was running perfect again. YAY after an almost 2yr storage!!!!!! the ole lady came outside and watched me work on her bike. She's itching for a ride. Login or Register to Remove Ads |
