got a couple of questions
Well, I was recently given a non-running 2001 gz250. Cleaned carb and fired right up. Drove around and noticed some popping noises from chain. I'm assuming this means it needs to be changed. Its adjusted all the way out so were is the cheapest place to get a new one and should i get sprockets with it? And what it the 16t sprocket change? Does it require a different chain? Thanks for any help.

Re: got a couple of questions
From your description I would go for a new chain and at least a new front sprocket. Sounds like the chain is trying to climb over the front sprocket teeth which will definitely be damaging them. The rear sprocket may not be too bad but in my opinion chain and both sprockets is the way to go. At least you will know what you have and need only lube and clean the chain.

Re: got a couple of questions
Welcome.Chains and sprockets should be changed at the same time.Changing to a 16t sprocket does not require a different chain.Chain size is a #520-110 link. The 16t sprocket gives you lower revs at road speed.probably cheaper to buy chain & sprockets on e-bay.

Re: got a couple of questions
8900 miles. Motor was seized because it had set for 2 years but sprayed wd-40 and let it set for 3 days. Cleaned carb and fired right up. Not smoking or anything.(YET) :2tup: Does anyone know what front turn signal bulb this bike takes (1157)?

Re: got a couple of questions
It takes a 21-5w bulb.Must be right wattage or signal lights will flash erratically.

Re: got a couple of questions
I would inspect the sprockets first, to see if they actually need to be changed. There's a chart in the owners manual that shows you exactly what is good and what is bad.
However, your description of the noise the chain is making leans toward frozen links and probably should be changed. Good luck and great price for the bike.

Re: got a couple of questions
I put Wd-40 into the cyclinder through the spark plug hole.
