For the record the pilot screw will mainly effect idle and starting.
Mine is a little under 3 turns out. From what others have said mine is more out
than most.

The pilot screw probably had nothing to do with the serious problems.
But if you had a dying engine, hard starting engine, surging engine... The the pilot screw may
be your issue.
