The GZ will handle a long trip with ease. That is the short answer............the long answer is also yes but with certain conditions. You won't want to spend any time on freeways trying to compete with fast moving traffic. The GZ is not fast enough or big enough. It is what it is. Stay on lesser highways with a lower speed limit, less traffic and enjoy the ride. Lynda rode her GZ half way across Canada and back with nary a hiccup. We stayed at 60 mph most of the time and everything was just peachy. Secondary highways are more scenic and relaxing for a long haul. Back roads have more twisties for entertainment and boredom relief.
The downside to travelling on the GZ is you always have to think ahead to determine how to tackle hills, headwinds and not getting run over by bigger traffic. Lynda moved up to a M-50 Suzuki(800cc) and enjoyed the extra power and size.
Any more questions of any sort can be addressed when you start a new thread of your own. Don't be shy.
