The only thing that was keeping your bike running was the electricity stored in the battery. As you would accelerate, which should charge your battery and run your electrical systems, you saw the light dim. The light was dimming because that acceleration was draining your battery.

Your charging circuit is bad.

You're going to have to pull out the volt meter and figure out what's going on. Anything less than 13.4v at idle and the bike is not charging the battery.
