There is an instructional guide on changing your oil. Follow it and read the discussion. You'll learn pretty much everything you need to.

Most motorcycles have a system like ours, where the clutch and gear and engine internals are all bathed in the same lubricant. For this reason, we can't use the "ENERGY CONSERVING" or "RESOURCE CONVERVING" because some of the friction inhibiting polymers that help automotive engine achieve higher fuel economy ratings will wreack havoc on our clutch's ability to grab and bite.
