I have taken them apart & cut 2 or 3 coils out of the springs.Depending on the style of shock will determine how they come apart. Some aftermarket shocks are easy, while some OEM are a pain to get apart. The last set I done were 11" aftermarket & I took out two coils.I ended up with a set of 9" shocks. Not a lot of travel left, but enough to soften the bumps. Also hardtails will not pass safety inspection here in P.E.I.
