Agreed. It baffles my mind why something as simple as a carb cleaning wouldn't already be done if you were selling a bike. The difference for the seller means "spend $10 and 20 minutes and make an extra few hundred dollars" or "Nah, I'll burn free money."

If there are issues that can't be diagnosed by yourself, take a friend who knows more about bikes with you.
A buddy of mine was dead-set on buying an older Honda Shadow, that ran great, until I test drove it. It had a warped frame and would have pulled a rookie ride straight into the pavement on the first turn. Even after explaining that, his eagerness to own a bike almost made him fork over the money for it...For new buyers, remember there are tons of bikes out there and you don't have to settle on the first great deal you come across. If it's too good to be true...
