Right, I agree that you don't have to remove the battery, as long as the cord from the charger is long enough. Just clip the clippy things on the correct terminal (+ and -,) then make sure it's set to 2 amps max, plug it in and leave it probably overnight.
Did you take the rider training course (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) yet? It can help with all the little problems when you're new, and I'm pretty new (4 months) so I know. They start at the very basics and get you up to riding speed and it's a good time and they're very nice and it also is statistically proven to greatly improve your chances of surviving your first year, when you are most likely to get into an accident.
And... get and read "Proficient Motorcycling" by David L. Hough. It's the most wonderful book.
