The shop could be correct. When my son used the GZ I am riding he only got about 3000 miles from a set of front pads. He admits that he did not use the rear brakes very well. I seem to get about 6000 from a set of front pads. The last set was emergency set donated from a dealer demo bike with 1400 miles. I got an additional 3500 miles off of them. So someone new is likely to use the front brakes more heavily while learning the brake balance of the bike.

With that, I agree that you would think that you would get more miles from a set of pads than one does.
