I think you need a bigger shield.

While what you say is logical and probably is true, there IS a point where the offending air shifts from top to bottom and it is not always easy to recognize when that happens.

The bottom air sometimes hits your chest at just the right angle to run up your body and beat on your helmet........and leaning forward (and down) a bit disrupts that perfect angle......in a fashion very similar to dropping your head out of the top stream.

I post this not to dispute your analysis of the situation but to just point out what has happened to ME and LOTS of other ridres too when trying to adjust shields. It took me YEARS and lots of people beating it into my head before I finally "got it". (Yes, thick headed !!)
