Re: Dave's home
Thanks Bonehead! And thanks for coming along. It was awesome, and quite the adventure in some places.
I met some really interesting people, and saw some of this amazing country of ours. I missed Easy Rider twice in IL, which is a shame, but definitely met lots of touring riders, including one guy on an RT that routinely does 800 or more miles/day.
I rode over 2000 miles (through the desert mostly) on a plugged tire, and my whole instrument cluster went dead briefly at one point. Other than that no problems with the bike.
The weather was mostly bad, in a couple of cases really bad, but I was pretty well prepared. The only thing that seriously detracted was the strong crosswinds, most notably in Kansas.
But, I wanted an adventure, and I got one.
I'm resting up now, and probably won't have any desire to ride for a few more days. The final distance was 6819 miles in exactly one month. Yes, I know, that's a very slow pace, but that's what I wanted. I'm old enough that sitting all day, day after day, is bad for my health. So I stopped a lot, took walks, talked to people, took pictures, and etc. It got me there and back in one piece.
I'd like to thank bonehead and the others from this forum who took the time to leave messages on the message board on my blog. It was much appreciated. If I ever get to Salida again, I'll take more pictures! This is a great group indeed!
Dave
