Honestly, if you travel with it often, I would suggest a few of foam blocks. Assuming you have a laptop bag, put a foam block below it and maybe sandwich it between a couple. I'd use 3" thick dense upholstery sheet foam.

As you know, the less you agitate your hard drive the better. Maybe you should get a SSD and then you won't have to worry.

BTW, when I transport mine (not too often) on the bike, I wrap the case in a couple of thick towels so that it doesn't move around and is fairly well padded.
