I just returned from LAX. Having left at 6:10pm, I hit near peak traffic. Initially I resisted the urge, but, before long I was slinking in between the slowed traffic. As I mentioned before, it's definitely a practice that gets the heart rate up. In my case, I think the biggest danger is not from the errant cars that slide over to block your access, but from the more aggressive (and much faster travelling) fellow lane splitters. All those loud pipes don't stand out that much if you are yourself astride an 800 pound 1900cc beast. If you happen to dart into the space between the lanes at the wrong time, you risk getting t-boned by Mr. Kawasaki who "comes out of nowhere" calmly zipping along the stripes at 60 mph.

Although I ride the motorcycle, (and ski) I would not characterize myself as a thrill seeker (probably, the opposite.) However, if you've lived in SoCal for any length of time (or NJ, NY or Chicago) and have had to deal with massive traffic conjestion from 6-10am and 2-8pm every effing day, the temptation is just too great to resist.
