No, not dumb at all. Other answers are good but I think a point was missed.

At a stop sign, one ROW of bikes can all go when it is your turn BUT each should survey the traffic and not start to go just because the bike beside you did. Or to put it another way, you can break the stager at the stop sign and line up side by side ONLY for going across the intersection.

YOU SHOULD NEVER FOLLOW ANOTHER BIKE THROUGH ON HIS TURN.

OH, and no more than 2 bikes per lane.

I have seen bikes go 4 abreast on a 4-lane road at a stop sign and go through 4 at a time.....but that never seemed smooth to me. My advice is to keep the bikes to one lane and go 2 at a time.

Resume the stagger asap.
