Welcome to the forum - lots of good info on here. In addition to things like changing the oil/filter, emptying out the gas tank and filling it with clean gas, getting a new battery, change the tires even if they look good. They are 8 years old and probably hard and therefor slippery and the sidewalls may be cracked or checked. Get new tires and tubes for safety's sake.
