The GN250 engine is also compatible in most cases. I believe the two engines are the same.
Just curious, why do you say the engine is toast?

I agree probably your gasket. However, a quick, temporary fix--Get some Ultra Black liquid gasket and rub a little in around the area that is leaking....It will look ugly but may same your pants...

Check that "T" mark, but make sure as the others mention above, make sure you are on the correct part of the stroke. Also, an easy way is you can see your valves in the front move to that "up"...

To John C......Yes, I agree.....It may or may not be the noise....I will be going into the head to check the valves....maybe even pull the cylinder off as there may be possibility of a piston...

I want to thank you all for contributing to this post. My bike has a similar ticking noise issue that none of the mechanics in my area can seem to help me identify it...I am going on guesswork now....

Cylinder Head Removal
Has anyone tried to remove the Cylinder Head without removing the engine from the frame?? I am thinking of trying it, I removed the cylinder cover successfully and measures the cylinder head piece...

At 11k miles on it, I would change both. A new chain will not set in well with the wear on the sprockets. I had the same problem with the chain coming loose--The chain wore out---I wore the teeth...
