20w-50 Dino oil OK for hot weather?
been thinking about using a 20w-50 conventional oil during warmer months since my gz250 is seeing lots of stop & go traffic, construction zone delays, idling at traffic lights, etc; other than a minor reduction in power & gas mileage, are there disadvantages to running a thicker oil? thanks...

I will not use 20W-50 on any vehicle.
this oil will increase the stress on the oil pump an slow the oil flow trow the engine reducing the cooling an increasing the fuel consumption |
Raul is correct. I discussed changing weight of oil with 3 different motoercycle shops. All advised against the idea. Stick with recommended weight oil was the answer I got from all .

15-40 Shell Rotella dino will work well enough. The 20-50 weight is just a tad heavy for a smaller engine to pump.
Much larger V-twins are sometimes recommended to run a 20-50 due to heat, engine stresses and the shear forces of the gears. |
10w-40 covers all temp ranges that any normal person is going to see.

OK...the 20w-50 currently in the bike will be used as a 1000 mile 'flush' and back to 15w-40 or 10w-40 afterward
