Oil filter spring & rubber ring placement

Just bought my used GZ and changed the oil yesterday. When I took the filter off I noticed the spring and small O ring were installed oposite of what the diagram shows. The small O ring was on first before everything. Spring was on last. I left it that way with the new filter.

Thoughts?

No, the diagram shows everything correctly. Only thing, when you remove the cover, it's on your right hand side, but the diagram shows it as though you're at the front of the bike, so the cover comes off to the left (as you're looking at it)

The easiest way is to follow a sequence in any diagram and place the things accordingly whatever side.

I would imagine the last owner put it together wrong. I'll open her back up and do it right. Thx for your input!

1. O ring
2 Filter
3. Spring
4. Gasket and cover.

Just like the picture.

I think you have it right as Alan said, photo is from the front and you are working with your left hand.

Jerry,
If you notice on the diagram, it shows:

1. O ring
2. Spring
3. Filter
4. Gasket & cover

You have the spring going on 3rd.

Steelpix. Here is what I did. The large O-ring goes on the cap with a light coating oil oil. The spring will fit on the projection in the center of the cap. Then place the small O-ring in position on the engine. Place the filter on the engine. Now you can install the cap over the filter. The spring will push the filter against the engine to seal it to the engine. The cap is sealed to the engine by the large O-ring.
A word of caution here. You do not need to really torque down on the 3 hex head caps. Snug them nicely and use a drop of Blue Loktite during the process. Hope this helps as I am going from memory. Some one will correct me if I am wrong.
