Titanium Exhaust Wrap Question

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new user to the forums (my introductory post can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4687). I want to thank everyone again for the wonderful information that's available here on the forums.

My question is about Titanium Exhaust Wrap and the benefits it can provide. I noticed in another forum post located here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4645 that the rider wrapped his exhaust headers. I'm curious about the benefits this provides. Does it lower overall engine temperature?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Re: Titanium Exhaust Wrap Question

Typically it is only holding the heat until it can escape through the muffler. I don't believe it actually lowers the engine temp any more than a few degrees. This would be because the heat that would normally come off the pipes would "pre-heat" the air that is destined to cool the engine. Mostly I think it's for looks but it can provide some benefit.

However, the cost-to-benefit ratio seems high.

It will prematutrely age your brand new chrome plated pipes. Those wraps will trap moisture and can also lead to early rusting.

Unless you are going for a particular look (rat bike or chooper/bob, for example) then I would avoid it.

That will happen only if you are not riding, otherwise that's not exactly correct. However, if the bike seats somewhere in a wet space it will get rusty with or without a wrap, it's just a matter of time.

aye mate, the wrap is a disaster on a motorcyle, there is to many vairables to think about and even if you dont think so, its common knowledge header wrap accelerates rust, and its common sence too. the wrap retains moisture
