back packs
 

Hi every one i was wondering what your thoughts were on getting a back pack for use..i have tools that are required for my job and i really can not leave them at work as there is no place to leave them( i work in convention industry) but i was looking for a good pack to carry them in ..any suggestions?

how heavy are our tools? i have a suzuki luggage rack on mine that i strap whatever too. its as if its not even there. but sometimes i use my old highschool backpack on my back too. having that luggage rack really helps. might try rigging up sometig to strap stuff to the bike

I fitted a small backpack with plastic strap buckles on the top and bottom and tied the mating halves to the bikes frame at each end of the tank.
Now I have a cheap, but roomy tank bag. I go everywhere with it. There's a few good shots of it on this page:

the tools when i carry all of them weigh upwards 50lbs atm i dont have a luggage rack on the bike i tried on of the backpacks with wheels at one time to carry them but the wheels broke on me after a few months because of the weight. I was looking at getting on of those ogio no drag bags and possible lightening my load.

IMHO riding with 50lb on your back sounds a mite dangerous. Will you have sufficient agility to be able to move your body around, safely, to balance the bike? If you can't afford a rack, is there some way of fixing a pack to the pillion? :)

I wouldn't feel very comfortable with 50lb on my back. If it were me, I'd fashion a bracket to mount a hard tool box on the fender in place of the rear seat.

i'm with alan and cayuse. 50 lbs. is a lot of mass strapped to your spine. hate to think of having an off with that scenario. i wear a pack every time i ride but it has a rainsuit and spare gloves.
what about a set of bags to drop the weight down lower? something you can remove easily and take into work. like so.

You have several options:

Fit a luggage box directly to the rear fender, in place of the passenger seat. (The holes you dril will be covered when you put the passenger seat back on.)

Just splurge a little bit and buy a rear rack. It will come in handy for much more than just carrying tools.

Also, and this would be my personal option, just spend $8 on a bungee net and secure your backpack full of tools to the passenger seat. No money spent, good and secure carrying capacity, and, like the rack, you can use it for other stuff for years to come.

thanks for all the advice.i went ahead and picked up a ogio sleek backpack and reduced my tools to where they are around 15lbs
