Helmets

I didn't see a post(at least not readily) on a specific helmet type I'm interested. And couldn't find a gear subforum, so since is kind of a gadget/technology I'll post it here.

Ive been looking at full face helmets that have bluetooth built in. Does anyone have one? How is the quality of the incoming/outgoing audio and does it cancel out the background noise? Is there a certain one you would recommend?

I have just a normal bluetooth I use when Im at work (I drive a semi) that works well, but sadly does not fit in the helmet, and even if it did I wouldnt be able to use it unless I took the helmet off to fix it, or stopped on the fly when I wanted to make/receive calls.

I appreciate your feedback

Re: Helmets

First you need a helmet that fits you comfortably and offers good protection. Check into a Scala Rider system that is Blue Tooth friendly and is designed to fit in and on a helmet. It is transferable to another helmet when the time comes. Lynda and I have Scala Rider systems(no Blue Tooth older systems)so we can talk to one another while riding and they are pretty decent equipment. Don't know about pricing these days but take a look and see if it might do the job for you. I have no idea what else is on the market but I am sure some one else will chime in soon enough.

Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Scala-Rider-SRMS0 ... sim_auto_1

Though a little pricey for my wallet.

I have been searching Amazon for a set that looks "OK" for the money based on reviews.

After trying to use my iPhone as a "turn-by-turn" GPS tell you when to turn 1/2 mile after turn was needed get you lost navigator, after doing a little research, I am getting a used Garmin nuvi 765T from Amazon, it supports blue tooth HEADSETS, not just bluetooth PHONES. Along with a low-cost hopefully is usable waterproof case and handlebar mount thingy and other associated components:

(Amazon Links)

Garmin Nuvi 765T
Motorcycle / Bike WATERPROOF Handlebar Mount for Garmin Nuvi 765T
FEMALE POWER PORT
Battery Tender with Black Fused 2-Pin Quick Disconnect Plug

So, if anyone has reviews for Bluetooth helmet things, I am all ears as well.

I was looking for something a little like : http://i40.tinypic.com/2j3h1ci.jpg

I dont care much for communication within a group of riders, I often just ride alone or maybe with one other. It's usually just to and from work.

Re: Helmets

That be the one. Our radios are an older lesser model without the Blue Tooth. Our original poster wants to primarily ride alone so a single unit from Scala might be a good option.

Re: Helmets

Not familiar with the Element/Blue Tooth helmet but I would imagine a Google would bring up lots of sites and reviews.

Re: Helmets

Well not specifically that brand, just helmets that have bluetooth built in

Re: Helmets

I have seen differing reviews on the bluetooth headsets on Amazon.

About the only one I have seen that has consistency with regards to the Bluetooth not cutting out, having proper wind/noise response, and being able to properly switch between phone and gps and back is the SCALA one.

As soon as I can get a set, I'll start a new topic in Farkles/Gadgets along with my GPS results.
