Southeast gets a pretty good snow storm
Went to bed last night at midnight and nothing was falling yet, looked out this morning and here is what we have in Northwest Georgia on January 10, 2011. I'm right at the state line with Chattanooga, Tennessee where I-75 crosses the border.
Here are a few shots from my house today. http://s1.postimage.org/35x99969w/Bi...0_2011_017.jpg http://s1.postimage.org/35xhixwqs/Bi...0_2011_007.jpg http://s1.postimage.org/35xt3pc78/Bi...0_2011_019.jpg http://s1.postimage.org/35xy2bdok/Bi...0_2011_013.jpg http://s1.postimage.org/35yrtzmkk/Bi...0_2011_015.jpg |

Re: Southeast gets a pretty good snow storm
WW, temps aren't that bad, it has been down in the mid twenties at night and around freezing for highs in the daytime. Later this week we are supposed to get down to around 12-14 at night and that is unusually cold for this region. I saw a local weather man report that we have had over 20" of snow in the last 12 months and that is really a lot for around here. Other than the blizzard of 1993 where we were hammered with about 2' of snow overnight, we rarely get more than 3-4 inches a couple of times each Winter. In the last ten years we really haven't had any snows over 2-4", so this is very unusual for our region. Atlanta is still basically shut down with over 2000 flights canceled today at Hartsfield international airport. This wouldn't be much of a storm for Northern regions, but we just do not have the snow plows and road equipment to treat anything other than the interstates and major roads, so once you get off the highways you are on your own until it melts away. Last night it was coming down at a rate of 2-3 inches per hour in many places, so even the interstates shut down in places for several hours. I am in the Tennessee Valley, but many of the mountain regions got over a foot of snow out of this system. It may take us all week to get traffic back to normal in rural areas.

Sounds like a great time to stay home and keep warm.

Re: Southeast gets a pretty good snow storm
I am staying home, but i spent most of my day outside shoveling snow off my driveway and along with a neighbor we cleared about 8 driveways and about 100 yards of roadway. It is supposed to drop to 21 degrees F tonight and not get above freezing for several days. Tomorrow night and the next they are calling for lows around 12-14 and highs in the twenties so all the slush on the streets will become solid ice pretty soon. My first week back at college this semester has so far all been canceled and so has my work in Atlanta, so I'm staying put, probably until next week.

Careful with that snow shovelling. It is a great way to have a heart attack.
