Tire pressure
 

Hello all,

Ok, so I was trying to find out what pressure to run my tires at, and was checking out this thread (I was a good boy, and used the search! Lol) :

It seems like a fair number of people mentioned something between the high 20' and mid 30's as far as a psi to run the tires at. Well, I took my bike in to a local shop to have them check the front tire for some wobbling, and the grumpy old guy that looked it over basically reemed me a little because the pressures were at 22psi (which is my bad - too low) and 28psi - he said they were both WAY too low, that they should be AT LEAST 40psi.

So my question is, was he just extremely grumpy cuz his wife didn't give him any the night before (or because she actually did, a la Al Bundy! Ha ha :lol: ),
OR,
is even 28 psi way too low, and should I run them both at 40 psi? What say you?

The tire pressures noted on the tires are maximums and not what is recommended by Suzuki,

The manual recommends 25 psi front and 29 psi solo or 33 psi two up.

I suggest and personally use the manual recommended pressures.

Not only is he grumpy, he's full of crap. :cry:

FOLLOW the Suzuki recommendation......which should be on a sticker on the chain guard or swing arm.....and certainly in the user's manual.

If you are looking for the absolute max. tread life, it won't hurt to add up to 4 additional pounds but beyond that it sacrifices comfort, traction and actually can make the wear worse in that thin contact patch that is left.

Thanks for the replies guys - I appreciate it. I noticed that with the tires aired up to 40psi, it rides pretty stiff - and feels a little too 'loose' as far as the grips goes - at least for my taste.

I think I will go with the Suzuki recommendations as well. Thanks fellers :2tup:

At 40 p.s.i. the tire would be to hard to give you any traction,not to mention tire wear, and a very rough ride.I always had good luck running at 30 p.s.i,comfortable,good tire wear,and traction.

Lynda's GZ seemed to be very happy with 28 front and 33 rear. Handled well and tire wear was almost nonexistant. This was loaded for travel or just for a short ride.

yes please follow the reccomendations in the manual, too much air or too little air can make you crash, you must go by what the manual says to stay safe.

Right on guys (don't think there were any ladies in this thread - if so, my apologies). I let a little air of them this morning, put the front right around 30psi, maybe a touch less, and the rear around 32 I think. I must say, the ride was much better, and felt like I was gripping the road a lot better.

Glad I didn't listen to that butthead at the wheel shop here. I was so pissed after leaving there that I ended up sending a fairly lengthy email about how dissatisfied I was with the 'service' and the fact that I came away feeling like such an idiot. Those guys there must do a heck of a business to treat customers that way, esp. in today's economy.

I am thinking I will be going to the local Suzuki dealer from now on for stuff. I would rather pay a little more (and in fact, it may not be any more - the prices at that shop weren't that good) and get treated with at least a shred of respect. If I wanted to be disrespected after giving someone money, I could just stay at home with my kids! Lol :lol:

I think 30 psi in the front is too much. The manual says 25 psi front. You don't want to wear out the center of the tire.
