Rookie Rider of a 2001 GZ250
Hello everyone,
I got my Bike couple of months ago, I've put over 500 miles since I got it, I'll be posting her pictures probably tomorrow. 2001 GZ250, 5000 miles on it, Windshield, Will and Max Saddle Bags, Engine Guard, Back Rest Luggage rack are some of the goodies that came with her among a 16T Front Sprocket, turn signal alarm and a Tachometer, I went ahead and got a new Custom Exhaust from Ebay to complete her. I also have some questions about performance that I hope somebody could help me with: I would like to know if I need to re-jet the Carburetor since there was a changed sprocket and now I just change the muffler? and if I need to re-jet what are the specs? Are there any kits for sale anywhere on the web? My mechanical experience with Motorcycles is slim to none but I can find my way on Cars since I've been working on my 65 Chevy Bel-air. Any Help will be appreciated :hide: Rolas69 |

Welcome. You need to re jet since you got new exhaust not because of the sprocket change. There are jet kits available on E-bay but they are expensive & not necessary. You will need to do a needle shim, main jet,and idle mixture adjustment. There are lots of directions under "Performance mods".Main jets can be picked up for a couple of dollars. When I changed my main jet I went from a stock #120 up to a #132.Yours may need to be bigger depending on altitude.A #130 is a good place to start and go from there. All these mods are easier if you take the carb off the bike.

Given that it is possible to make things worse and not better when you mess with the carb, I would STRONGLY recommend that you try it out first. I expect that it will be just fine without any changes. In the end, it might depend on what kind of "muffler" you actually put on it. If it has any real baffles at all, it is unlikely that any change will be needed. |

Welcome to the forum rolas! Always great to have another GZ rider, and especially one of a 2001 - which I have a particular affinity for, for some unknown reason!
