Quick fuel filter question
Hey,
Just wondering if any of those fuel additive carb cleaners can damage fuel filters or can the fuel filter stop the cleaner from working? Its nothing urgent, I was just wondering |
Re: Quick fuel filter question
Nope, to both questions.
And even if they did, fuel filters are dirt cheap and quick/easy to replace. |
Re: Quick fuel filter question
Just be sure to add the additive to the proper dosage/instructions. I would think a real strong overdose might have some ill effects on fuel filter and carb parts in the long run. And of course the bike might run like it's having a coronary.

Re: Quick fuel filter question
Where I live, you can't get carb cleaner, so I use a "fuel additive". It certainly makes the bike run sweeter, so I use it every 3 or 4 tankfuls. no problems so far (9000 miles) :)

Re: Quick fuel filter question
Cool, thanks a million guys - i had some stand pipe issues a while back and i got the carb cleaned but was driving it for about a week or so with no filters anywhere before i realised the stand pipe was loose in the tank - the bikes been running grand ever since but i just wanted to run a cleaner through it just in case any gunk got into the carb during that week of filterless fuel... and also to satisfy my curiosity because of the sheer number if people on here that say they improve the running of the bike so much

Re: Quick fuel filter question
+1 for Easy bringing up an inline filter. Probably a good idea and a cheap insurance policy in case something gets by the intank filter. The inline filter should stop much smaller particles too.

Re: Quick fuel filter question
yeah come to think of it i haven't had any carb problems since i stuck an inline filter on it (touch wood) but before i did i had a rake load of them

Yup, a couple bucks and 5 minutes tinkering can save you a lot of grief. Never had a carb issue with any previous bikes with inline filters. Most of my previous bike went off road and performed flawlessly. |
