Hey Alan, you must have a great view of the smoke...

...across the canyon. Those neato McMansions you saw on your ride over there might not be so neato by tonight. Hope your neighborhood doesn't show up on the news.

We're surrounded. Pretty much anything I'd write would sound like a cliche. Choose from hackneyed phrases below:

1) It's like a war zone!
2) The smoke is so thick you can't see your hand in front of your face.
3) What to save, what to leave?
4) People first, then property.

You will all be happy to know I did about 15 minutes of reconnaisance on the GZ before the flames got too close and I hightailed it back to pack up my irreplaceables. I will be abandoning one of my Camry's in favor of the GZ.

Ride on!

Seems to continue to be a mix of good and bad news. The big apartment complex down the road that caught fire about noon, has finally burnt to the ground, so the smoke from that has subsided a little. Unfortunately, other Anaheim Hills homes in that area are starting to go up and the fire remains on the march. So far, we are just a tad outside the mandatory evac zone and we're holed up watching the internet and TV. Have the GZ ready to go. Smoke is building up again and Yorba Linda has gotten real bad. Check out my "Hidden" Hills ride report from a few weeks back - that area is on fire and those houses are HUGE. I might take a second trip up there after the fires are out to update my pictures.

Upside? Got to help reduce the unsold home inventory. Saw a few AH houses in flames with the "For Sale" sign in the front yard.
