Just bought 2007 GZ250 w/ 6000 miles!

Hello,

This is my first bike ever  I bought her off of a private seller from Craigslist for $1,200. approx 6000 miles 2007. Runs great and was garage kept. I've been browsing through the beginner forums trying to learn about mistakes, how to properly ride, gear, etc.

This site's been a great deal of help to me! Especially the repair manuals and advice. Just went to Iron Pony yesterday and bought an AGV Sport armor jacket ($20), Zox Thunder R helmet ($45), and full gloves with knuckle protection ($10) from their closeout section.

Look forward to spending some time on these forums with you guys!

Thanks PimpS! I had the hardest time riding her home lol. I read some funny stories about people getting their bikes home for the first time. Mine was definitely no different. No previous experience riding prior and taking the bike 30+ minutes away was definitely something I won't forget for a while lol.

Welcome to the family.Nice looking bike. You really should take a riding course,so you can learn to ride safely & properly, without picking up any bad riding habits.

Thanks! Yeah, I signed up for our local MSF course (It's called BRC here in Ohio and only $25 for 4 hrs in class and 12 hrs on bike instruction). Unfortunately while buying this bike in the winter, I have to put it in storage for the next 2 months so it doesn't get rained/snowed on :(

The engine also tends to shut off while idling at a red light. I'm guessing the idle speed may need to be turned up? I'm gonna get an oil change and valves adjusted at our local Iron Pony soon. Also going to put some Stabil in her for the winter.

Idle speed should be 1200 rpm when warm. :)

It stinks that the bike doesn't have an tachometer... I can't tell if it's idling at the right rpms...

The best I can explain it is,as a fast idle on your car. :)

Welcome to the forum from South Carolina. You made a very good decision to take the MSF BRC. It's the best investment in your safety that you can make. Ride safe.

Hi! You did get some great deals. Kudos on the armor. I love armor. Anyway, someone usually has to say that you should run some carb cleaner, like chem b12 or seafoam, at the regular concentration or up to double the concentration (usually 1-2oz per gallon) through the tank to clean the carb and this sometimes/often cures the idle problems. Also, recommend David L. Hough's book, "Proficient Motorcycling." It's great.

er... kinda curious how you got home before getting a helmet but I probably shouldn't ask. ;)

.. Oh, and also, they need to be warmed up properly before they'll run/idle well, and you usually set the choke first to get it started and warmed up, and then as it warms up and you're ready to go, you close the choke so that it runs better. Not sure if you were doing that yet.

Thanks! I got the helmet, armor, and gloves before I drove it home. I felt like $1200 was a fantastic price and had to have it lol. Haven't found anything on craigslist even close to that price for the great condition this bike was in.

I will definitely run some seafoam through her. How much should I put in 1 tank of gas? I've heard anywhere from 1/3 bottle to half bottle.

A 1/3 of a bottle in a full tank of fuel is fine. :) :2tup:

For mechanical gifted people the carb is not hard clean.Preventive maintenance is better for others.I don't find the carb hard to clean either. But I would still prefer to not have to do it.Also SeaFoam or Berrymans b-12 is very good at cleaning combustion chambers & and valves.

Really great windshield! Non classic but it reminds me of a serie Sons of Anarchy... Who is the maker of this windshield and what's the price if anyone knows?

Unfortunately, I am not sure of the make or cost of the windshield. It came with the bike. Is there somewhere on the windshield that might give me a make/model #?

I just bought a can of seafoam yesterday. Going to it in her today and run her around town. It's gonna be one hell of a cold ride lol. 38 degrees high today o.O
