Turn signal Issue

Re: Turn signal Issue
I've had intermittent issues with mine, but I didn't put together the particular sequence as described. I'll pay a little closer attention to see if the causes are the same. I though I was getting it working again just by pressing on it repeatedly, but maybe I just stumbled across the magic reset. I do occasionally turn off the bike with them on.

Re: Turn signal Issue
Mine was wonky this morning. Happens every now and then. I have always got it working again by repeatedly punching the 'cancel' just like Alan, but maybe we should just cancel once and leave it alone as you say. I will try this on my way home today. Just watch, it will refuse to misbehave today!

Re: Turn signal Issue
all of you; it couldnt hurt to take apart the switch and clean it with some electrical cleaner
|
Re: Turn signal Issue
Yes, Geezer, I have used electrical cleaner and it works, fine.
However, I did find something interesting just now. I switched on, activated the turn signal and switched off while the blinker was going. Switching on again, I see no turn signal and the signal will not activate in either direction UNTIL i punch the cancel. I don't have to wait 15 seconds. That much seems to be very consistent on my bike. I think the rest of it comes down to dirty contacts. |
Re: Turn signal Issue
Can't you just remember to cancel the signal with the button and work it like it was supposed to work, then see if it has any problem?
Then you can see if the issue is with the bike or the operator. |
Re: Turn signal Issue
right, haha like they say "problem was the loose nut behind the wheel"

Re: Turn signal Issue
The problem is always with the operator......
Either the operator left the signal on while turning the key off, or the operator didn't clean the contacts enough. The way the relay works seems to be a factor, but nothing proper training, and adequate maintenance can guard against. I'm sure you NEVER forget to cancel your turn signal do you mrlmd1? |

"I'm sure you NEVER forget to cancel your turn signal do you mrlmd1?"
I never said or implied that, and I would imagine everybody does forget now and then. You forget less the more you ride. I've just never heard of this problem before and somehow don't think replacing the relay will solve it, but if you do that and it does, then please let us know. My PC800 has self-canceling turn signals and that I forget, always going to turn them off after a turn. |
Re: Turn signal Issue
Just bought my GZ , it is a 08, with 956 miles on it. At first the turn signals would work for awhile and then stop, working again later, w/o my ever turning off the bike. Now they have stopped working altogether. If I want to replace the relay where will I find it? Its two hours to the closest dealer.

Re: Turn signal Issue
Thank you - the kick stand kill switch has also been on again - off again in its performance so I'm seeing a pattern.

Might be an idea to put a little lube on the side stand itself too. Lever pivots, foot pegs pivots and some chain lube into the little rubber booties on the shifter linkage to keep things limbered up and free. The GZ will thank you for a little TLC with many happy miles and smiles. |
Re: Turn signal Issue
I have been having a similar problem but mine stems from pushing down slightly on the turn signal and over to a left or right the light blinks once and fails then i can cancel it and sometimes it will work again and sometimes not just depends sometimes i have to cancel and alternate the switch a few times to get it to work left right left right left right....... when all i want is a right turn signal to come on
and I have almost gotten ran over in the morning because of it. |

Re: Turn signal Issue
The only issue with that Scenario... is that all of the bulbs on my bike minus the two indicator lights at the key switch location are brand new. and have been replaced twice because i thought maybe i got a bad bulb.... I don't know what could be causing it but it is rather annoying. I replaced my back bulb as described but Johnathan180iq brake light. turns out those bulbs also work in the front turn signal sockets as well without a hitch. however the ones in the back turn signals are a single filament bulb but i managed to find a lower voltage higher wattage bulb for that socket.. I can get the numbers off the bulb later if anyone is interested.

Re: Turn signal Issue
Turn signal bulbs need to be the same as factory or they won't flash correctly. You can upgrade the flasher, but you need to isolate it from the side stand relay, than you can use a electronic flasher.
