2003 Blue GZ250 (Marauder)

A pic of my GZ

-matched gas tank repaint (fell over onto swingset in the wind :( )
-black added to front fender at lower rear

needle shim mod
16t sprocket
level 3 suspension
needs 30 secs of choke to idle nicely before going from a cold start (get on and go pretty much )
Chevron Techron/Shell Nitro Gas by choice.. seems to do the job at 91 octane (canadian)
Oil changed every 5000kms and topped up to full along the way

currently sits at 45000kms
Carb replaced by a used Ebay Special from Illinois

its been dropped twice, backed into once and had 2 windshields replaced.

longest run has been up from Nanaimo BC to Burns Lake BC within 36 hours in the spring. I rode it all day long without ANY problems. After many thoughts of considering a new bike, my GZ keeps me happy and i havent looked back. especially with the easy maintenance helped by this sites contributors.

Cheers Fellas, shes probably on the road because of your advice(s)

Do you ride 2-up? My wife reckons that the shad box is a more comfortable back rest than the proper backrest that I used to have. :2tup:

I do ride 2 up on occasion... not far but a few miles none the less... I wouldnt tell my girlfriend to lean on it its a 29 litre box held on by 4 bolts/nuts

on top of that isnt there a triangle shape where the rider and passenger need to be within to ensure proper weight distribution between front and back tires...? hence the need to stay close to the driver with arms wrapped around hips ...?

Canuck, I wouldn't be too concerned with the triangle/weight thing. The pass weight is directly over the rear axle and not behind it which would affect the handling. Just be sure your tire PSI is up where it should be for the extra load. Of course there is nothing wrong with being up close and personal either. :2tup:

Right on! I didnt think it was a big deal so much but just something i was told in the safety course.

Ill make sure that PSI is up to specs before riding again though as im usually at 29 psi in the rear for single riding..

thanks !

happy riding

by the way is your bike shut down for the winter now with all the snow you guys have in whistler??

Re: 2003 Blue GZ250 (Marauder)

If you run the PSI for 2 up or even a couple over all the time the rear tire will last a lot longer. Bump up the front a couple extra for better tire wear too. When Lynda had her GZ the tires had very little wear at 12000 kms by keeping the PSI up a bit over spec.
As for snow at Whistler, they can have it. We haven't had any snow here but lots of rain which is typical for Squamish especially in November. Today is the first time in weeks that we have a blue sky and sunshine. Looks like a good day for a ride even with temps only a few degress above freezing. Might head toward Whistler if the temps are good there and the roads should be clear.

Did you cut off the top portion of the luggage rack? [ back rest] I don't know why Suzuki doesn't make just a luggage rack for the GZ or the TU . I've checked on the TU 250 and the dealer /Suzuki California doesn't have any other acc for the GZ [other than what they have] and nothing for the TU250. Seems funny that they have them for the rest of the world ,but refuse to sell them here. CMS :??:

"it's the same on e-bay unless I am mistaken."

Bigdan, and others, try Google Translate. It's pretty good and it's free.
