Welcome! You've come to the right place. You don't have to be crazy to come on this site, but it helps. :2tup:

Re: Have Bike Now What??
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting a GZ! Might I be so bold as to suggest you find a local MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) class you could take locally. Great classes that will help you build up your riding skills and your awareness skills, both of which you need working well when riding a bike. You can probably find information on a local class at www.msf-usa.org or call them at 1 (800) 446-9227 for the rider training location nearest you.
Good luck! |
Re: Have Bike Now What??
Thanks for the info! I actually started with the MSF course last fall and passed the first time around. I had never been on bike before. The 2 instructors played good cop/bad cop with me the entire weekend. One always smiling and encouraging...the other always yelling and chewing my butt out, but it brought me around perfectly! F or the course I was assigned to a GZ so when I purchased, I went with what I knew. I have a 2006 w/300 miles on it. It suits me well, I'm only 5'4".

Re: Have Bike Now What??
Great, glad to hear you've already taken the course and had experience riding a GZ ! How did you find an 06 with only 300 miles on it, I do that almost every week. Sounds like you did well with your purchase! We hit 80 here in North Georgia today, how is the weather in Ohio now? Have fun riding!

i am originally from Akron Ohio. never heard of the town you live in, i may be moving back there some time soon, not quite sure yet.. |
Re: Have Bike Now What??
Welcome aboard, zipmap! I'm new to the bike world also, you are going to have a blast!!
And this forum is a GREAT place to be. My first forum ever and have already picked up invaluable advice about many things. VERY glad to see another newbie biker-chick online! :-) Have you posted a pic of your GZ yet? My husband belongs to a different forum (for Honda Shadows) and was told "No pix = no bike"! Ha!!! |

I know of 2 Shadow forums; one nice and the other not so much. Hope he is in the first and not the one where the rule seems to be "the louder the pipes the better" and where the overall feel is a bunch of junior high school boys going through puberty !!! |

Re: Have Bike Now What??
Tranquility, sounds like your husband belongs to shadowriders.net :) I probably know who he is, i frequent that forum every day (patrick is a member there too).
Its not a 'not so nice' forum ... its an 'adult' forum for those with a thick skin and an open mind .... and a mindset that you wanna mod your bike. Once you get through the 'noob' hazing, which is sometimes pretty intense (hence the thick skin), those guys will bend over backwards to help you. |
Re: Have Bike Now What??
It's amazing how the perception of a message board is so wildly different from one person to the next. SR is a great site, filled with good information and people who are generally a lot more willing to help, even when compared to here. Dupo's dead right about the open-mindedness and having a thick skin over there. You can be a surly, rotten d-bag elsewhere, and people tend to take it. But over there, you're called out for what you are and you're forced to deal with it. If you don't deal with it on your own, you're rightfully culled from the herd.
It's a little more life-like, than the Disney-concocted lovepit we have going here. WW is right in the other thread...we are kind of the family-friendly version of a motorcycle message board. |
Re: Have Bike Now What??
Well, C'mon, Patrick. Guys & gals riding GZ250s aren't exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you visulaize a 'bad ass biker'.
"They came roaring into town, sounding like a pack of angry sewing machines. The GZ'ers were out for blood, someone from the local car club had cut off one of their own in the Walmart parking lot, and they were going to make him pay. They pulled up in the post office parking lot, with a stern, certified letter to be mailed to the offending cager, his life was about to become....uncomfortable" |

"Disney concocted love-pit", huh? Patrick_777, based on your posting history, you sure don't seem to mind it. Awww, come on ... you're a love-in kind of guy, aren't you? Admit it, the more politically correct, the better, yes? Come oooonnnnn, just admit it. |

Re: Have Bike Now What??
I never said I didn't like it. In fact, many times, I've said exactly the opposite. Why do you think I spend so much time here, and burn my off hours caring for the joint? Notoriety?
I actually am a "love-in" kind of guy...I have only like 7 posts over at SR.net. |
