Qasual: You are one of those guys !!

The scooters guys who wants a Grom I bet, but the GZ is so much cooler. Trust meh.

Jokes :3

Water Warrior 2 01-15-2014 12:58 AM

I will never knock a scooter. They serve a purpose and folks travel thousands of miles on them during a trip. I will however knock the riders of scooters when they fall into a mind set of the LAW does not apply to scooters. Same as motorcycle riders think the law is just a suggestion.
Scooter riders travel just like moto riders without all the shifting.

Cathy 01-15-2014 01:03 AM

Qasual - I rode a yamaha bws 49cc to school with Cathy before we got our big bikes.

Hahaha yeah, i hang with the ruckus guys. A modded Grom does look pretty sweet LOL.

grasshopper 01-15-2014 08:57 AM

my first mode of transportation was a 1987 Honda elite 150 scooter. I rode that thing everywhere and 2 up a lot of the times. it was a real fun ride. I sold it to get money for a car , 83 Honda civic. I was about 50 lbs lighter back then too. I solder my sister my Honda elite 80 last November and she loves riding it all over Charleston s.c.

Goose51683 01-15-2014 09:21 AM

I have no problem with scooters, I have a problem with the 12 yr olds who ride them in the middle of the street pretending they are adults. Or the ones who will ride it on a county highway and swerve back and forth.

When gas realy jumped up a few years ago the number of scooters exploded around here. So did the number of scooter related accidents.

grasshopper 01-15-2014 10:17 AM

yeah. I had an accident on my elite 150. I was going around a curve to fast and hit some sand, the back wheel slid out then gripped the road and flipped me and the scooter down the road. no major damage to me or the scooter. there are more mopeds than scooters around here. here you can get your motorcycle license on any bike over 50cc. I got mine on the elite80 scooter.

Goose51683 01-15-2014 01:48 PM

This might be a dumb question but whats the difference between a moped and a scooter. I assumed they were the same thing.

jonathan180iq 01-15-2014 02:04 PM

Moped's techincally have to have pedals. People use the words interchangeably out of habit, but they are legally different beasts.

Scooter

grasshopper 01-15-2014 02:09 PM

around here we consider a moped to be under 50cc motor, no license plate or insurance needed, just a tag saying moped on it. a scooter is above 50cc and requires a license plate and insurance like a motorcycle does.

jonathan180iq 01-15-2014 02:42 PM

You're in SC?

Moped and scooter designations can vary legally from state to state, but from what I recall the licensing difference is based on the CCs and not what the state happens to designate as a moped or a scooter. You can have 150cc mopeds, for example, that require licensing or you can have a 49cc scooter that does not. Follow?

Goose51683 01-15-2014 03:27 PM

Copy that.

I have to say I would proudly ride that scooter that looks like it came straight out of the jetsons....course I have secret Jane Jetson fantasies too so that might have something ot do with it. Haha....but seriously....

jonathan180iq 01-15-2014 03:47 PM

You can give me a hard time all you want. We're more alike than you know...

Goose51683 01-15-2014 04:25 PM

Trust me I know

...And it scares the hell out of me...but kind of arouses me at the same time...weird huh.

grasshopper 01-15-2014 04:39 PM

I follow what your saying. let me put it this way. South Carolina says under 50cc you have a moped tag on it. over 50cc you have a regular tag on it. that's all I know.

Cathy 01-20-2014 06:04 AM

My mountains are bigger than yours.

alantf 01-20-2014 04:15 PM

Yes, but mine is the biggest of 'em all. Mount Teide - the volcano. :D

How tall is it above sea level he asked? Alantf of course replied with an accurate number of.....? LOL.

alantf 01-21-2014 05:02 AM

12,198 ft (2.31 miles) above sea level. The highest point in Spain, and the 10th highest mountain in the world. :D

Cathy 01-21-2014 09:09 AM

Qasual:

Oil change and chain adjustment, DONE!

First to second gear feels like a sportbike shift and the power delivery feels like I gained 2hp. :P

jonathan180iq 01-21-2014 09:11 AM

It was probably more like 7hp. 2rwhp

Cathy 01-21-2014 11:50 AM

Qasual - I believe my slipstream windsheild comes in today as well might pop by the shop to pick it up. Going to surprise Cathy with a nice windshield and dirty bike. :P

JohnC 01-21-2014 02:56 PM

Which one did you get? I have a Spitfire (S-06) I have been meaning to try, but haven't gotten around to it...

(Why are you masquerading as Cathy?)

That would make for one heck of a hike. I tried walking at 10,000 ft. above sea level and nearly passed out. I am a wimp of course.
One of the climbers here in Squamish climbed Everest in preparation for Mt. K2 which is a much more difficult climb. I just can't imagine that much adventure in one lifetime.

Qasual :

Same one as you (Tinted black though) , and the reason behind this user name is that this is Cathy's account and also this is her bike. BUT, I do all the technical stuff on it and I seem to be posting most of the stuff on here now. :( But she does contribute in saying hi to all the new members. Making my own account would feel like putting this one to waste.

So today the bike shop was closed due to a family emergency so I'll pick up the windshield tomorrow.

JohnC 01-21-2014 09:08 PM

OK, I think I get it. I thought "Cathy" was responding to "Qasual", but now I guess Qasual is Cathy's alter ego. ;)

Let me know how you make out with the wind screen, in fact, if you could post a picture it might save me some time scratching my head. (I've lost enough hair as it is...)

Water Warrior 2 01-21-2014 11:37 PM

Just remembered one easily cured problem on the shield. They may have fixed it but who knows.
There was 2 little bolts with a wingnut head that could not be tightened very well with my fingers. I just went to a hardware store and bought a couple bolts the same size with a real hex head for proper tightening.

Goose51683 01-22-2014 03:10 PM

JohnC,

Thanks, I just thought I was an idiot cause I had no idea what Qasual was and apparently I"m so dense I still didn't get it until you spelled it out. So thanks!

jonathan180iq 01-22-2014 03:13 PM

He kind of slipped it in there, but I felt like he was making it kind of obvious when it was him, by starting all of his threads with "Qasual:..."

Either that, or Cathy really loves random words at the beginning of her posts.

Goose51683 01-22-2014 03:19 PM

You know I meet a lot of people with a lot of different quirks....apparently so many in fact, that I wound't even consider that unusual.

Honestly I thought s/he was responding to someone else, thought maybe that was their actual name, not their screen name.

Cathy 01-23-2014 04:04 PM

Qasual:

So me and Cathy might be attending the motorcycle show in Vancouver, anyone near the area going to come as well ?

Water Warrior 2 01-23-2014 04:09 PM

Lynda and I will be going. Gotta see what I can't afford.
Also want to see if H-D will have any of their 500 and 750 models there. Two new bikes that may be considered as starter bikes but sound better on paper than an 883 sportster.

Cathy 01-23-2014 04:11 PM

Qasual:

Let's keep in touch for that, are you going on Friday ?

Don't know yet. If my new glasses come in today then we might go on Friday. You will recognize me though. I'm the old guy who shuffles around and talks to himself a lot. LOL.

Cathy 01-23-2014 04:29 PM

Qasual:

There will be a lot of old guys there that will possibly shuffle and talk to themselves hahaha.

Just making up for lost time. My Dad always said little boys should be seen and not heard. I am the last survivor of the original dysfunctional family.

X10bws 01-24-2014 12:00 AM

The past week, did an oil change, insured it, did MST and went for a ride :D

Cathy 01-24-2014 03:30 AM
