Re: headlight hi/low switch
In North Carolina motorcycles and old cars have safety inspection once a year for the new Tag (lic plate renewal). Emission tests is only for new cars (1995 and earlier cars are exempt from emission test). They are strict in that and last year I had to replace both tires as I could not pass the inspection. They check for lights, brakes, tires, turn signals and horn. The person at the dealership actually drives the bike to check brakes. Just that sometime they might not be so careful for hi/low beam and horn or if any nut bolt is loose.
we should be careful for our own and others safety anyway. |

In England, all vehicles have their first test on their third birthday, then every year after that. In Spain the test starts on the vehicle's 4th birthday, then every two years up to its 10th birthday, then every year after that. |

Around here, most places are just concerned about getting your money if an inspection is required. My son-in-law took my daughters Honda Rebel to the inspection center to have it certified before they'd issue a title because the title was listed as salvage. They didn't even have him get it out of the truck bed, or start it, test the brakes or anything. Just hand over your $100 cash and here's your paperwork to get your new title.

Re: headlight hi/low switch
WW, I agree, but like a lot of things when it comes to government regulations, the intent is probably very good, the application doesn't always work that way. At least around here, the inspection system seems to be basically a racket to earn money for the few who met the "requirements" to become official inspectors, without actually insuring that the bikes and cars "inspected" are any safer.

Cars get under hood and under carriage look too. In some counties your car or truck must pass an emmisions test. M/C are exempt from the emmisions test. |
