Hello all , I am currently having lighting issues with my 2007 gz250 . I used my emergency lights after getting lost and after turning the bike back on all turn signals wear dead . and the turn signal indicator light (the small green one) was no longer working. First of all all my lights except headlight and rear brake light (only when brakes are applied ) still function. This means that my brake light will only light up if i apply the brake . Is that normal ?? I remember it always on before. none of my turning lights work . or stay on at any time. So i replaced all the turning light bulbs with bulbs from autozone, the front turning signals are now always lit up . The rear turning signals still will not function even with new bulbs !! and the turning light switch to indicate which way I am going doesn't seem to work . I push the switch left or right and neither the front or rear turn signals flash. Can you guys please help me? I have searched endlessly and have found no answer to this problem. I cant ride my motorcycle anymore because i use it to commute and i cant possible keep risking riding at night without any form of lighting in the back . Please help , dont just refer to other forums , unless you provide a link . Thank you all in advance

It sounds more like you may have blown a fuse. Have you checked your fuses? I will try to find out which one would control those particular lights.

Your brake light should only come on when brake is applyed (Thats correct) But the tail light part (Double contact bulb 1157) shpuld come on with key.....Did you replace front bulbs with double contact 1157 & rear with 1156 single contact?...Sounds like you originally had a blown fuse.

I assumed she was talking about taillight on when you turn the key all the way back.(Not sure if your has that feature)???

Ah .... We call them parking lights. In England, if you're parked on a road that has more than a 30mph speed limit, you need to show lights, so there's also a 5W bulb in the headlight, that comes on with the tail light.

BTW, my best guess is that there's a problem with the wiring harness. Broken cores/shorted cores, caused by rubbing.

Ours just has taillight feature not the headlight.

If it isn't a problem with the wiring harness e.g. bad ground wire, or insulation rubbed off and shorted out, it could be in the ignition itself worst case scenario. Let us know what you find so that we can all learn from your experience.

North America only has the rear park light. I like the front end park light idea.

On the wiring loom, in the headlight, on American GZs, there's two extra cores. These are for the 5w bulb on European models. I thought the Canadian bikes were European spec, so I'm guessing Lynda's bike was American. The American bikes have a stick on S (Suzuki) on the tank, while the European models have a big 3D Marauder on it.

Mine was Canadian & no 5w bulb......The wiring may of been there I never checked.

Dunno if I'm contributing anything but I pinched a wire in my re re re rebuild this weekend. Blew the signals fuse.
This also killed, brake light, horn and neutral indicator lamp.

Lynda's bike was like a European with the big raised Murauder on the tank. But alas no front park lights in the headlight. I think it is some kind of mix an match for different regions when they go to the parts bin in the factory.

My Vstrom also had the ports in the headlight for park lights but they never used them for N.A. models.

Hey guys so I guess there was some confusion and now some disagreements about the brake light . My original question was basically is the brake light supposed to be a running light and then when u apply the brakes both filaments light up for a stronger light telling people that you are braking . I got some different answers but now after buying contact cleaner and replacing the brake light bulb the answer at least in the USA is that yes the brake light is a running light !!!! I always remembered that when I bought it that it was already one . And now it works perfectly again , it runs like it should and then gets brighter when I apply the brake . As for my turn signal issue I cleaned and reconnected all contacts , replaced all fuses ( the ignition fuse was burn out but I had not noticed any issues starting the motorcycle ) , and everything worked fine , my turning signals work perfectly . That is until I plug the rear turn signals back in . For some reason the front turn signals work fine , perfectly fine until I plug in the rear ones to test if all of them work , as soon as I plug those in none of the turn signals work. The front ones stay lit up but will not flash . Are my rare turn signals bad ??? I replaced the bulbs and clean all contacts and still can't get the lights to work with the rear turn signals plugged in . At this point I have made a custom wiring harness and still nothing . So I'm just going to remove the rear turn signals and ride without them . I think that's legal here in California.

If they work fine until you plug in the rear, the problem appears to be between the plug in point and the rear signals. Check everything again.

check everything again lol. i tore this dam bike completely apart and then reassembled it after giving up lol. but yeah im going to check everything again. it must be either the wires are bad or that connection has failed in some way. I have cleaned them to perfection , the contacts look brand new after i was done with them with no stripping whatsoever, yet when i plug them in everything stops functioning. Ive replaced all fuses as well. what could be causing this ?? should i disconnect the wires that lead to the turn signals from the harness and swap them out ?? so far i have only been disconnecting the turn signals from the wires themselves. (Un plugging the turn signals so they are free)(this includes the run signal post and its wire that leads to the connection wires. ) i have never pulled off the wires that connect to the harness if you get what i mean . also is there any way of taking the wires out of the turn signals ?? the black rubber part doesn't seem to be cable of disassemblying in order to connect a new wire to the bulb.

Starting to look like the problem may be anywhere between the actual flasher unit and the rear turn signals.
:hmm:
